I’ve been switching hair care products for years. I’ve looking for that miracle product that makes my hair feel like silk, but settling for ones that don’t make my hair feel like straw or weigh it down. The last brand I was using (and now replacing) is “Sunsilk Co-Creations Perfect Straight” – and yes they do test on animals
There are a few cruelty free brands that can be purchased at supermarkets. However, it seems to vary from store to store what is available. The only animal friendly shampoo and conditioner at my local Countdown (Browns Bay) was Organic Care by Nature’s Organics.
Review
I was a little unsure how much shampoo to use, as it doesn’t work up much of a lather. After rinsing the shampoo I was pleasantly surprised at the texture of my hair – usually after shampooing it feels dry and knotty. A little conditioner seemed to go a long way (I usually use quite a lot) and it was easy to distribute. I left the conditioner in my hair for around 3-4 minutes and rinsed. I towel dried my hair, brushed it straight, blow dried my fringe and left the rest to dry naturally, as per usual. Once my hair was dry, I brushed my hair again. Oh how I wish my hair felt like flowing silk, it didn’t, but then it never did. However, it was manageable, shiny and not frizzy – usually my hair is a bit frizzy first day after being washed.
Packaging – Attractive, opens easily. Downside is that PLA (made from corn) cannot currently be recycled or composted anywhere in New Zealand.
Efficacy – cleanses and conditions effectively
Scent – hair has a fresh floral fragrance
Price – compares well with other supermarket brands at $5.99 for a 400mL bottle
Cruelty Free Commitment – Accredited by SAFE Shopper (under Nature’s Organics) and Chose Cruelty Free; website statement; “cruelty free” labelling of products; Vegan.

Neat blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it
from somewhere? A design like yours with a few
simple tweeks would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your design.
Thanks a lot
Hi Blair,
The theme is Twenty Thirteen and I’ve just made a couple of minor changes. I really haven’t had enough time to do all I want to it and have concentrated mostly on my blog content and Facebook page.
I recommend creating a “child theme” so that you don’t loose your theme changes when the theme updates. http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes
Good luck with your blog
Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let
you know a few of the images aren’t loading properly.
I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different internet browsers and both show the same results.
Hi Louann, Thanks for your comment.
I’ve checked the page and the images seem to be loading correctly on the popular browsers now. I can only guess there may have been an issue with my web hosting provider.
Woo, I’m keen to try this stuff when I eventually run out of my Lush Cynthia Sylvia Stout (I swear I’ve had that stuff for 8 months!)
Great info Nyree!
Cool! Let me know if you’d like to write a review for one of your personal cruelty free faves!
